The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and MedCity Media will work together to launch an online community dedicated to entrepreneurship in the medical industry.

The community will start in the coming months on Entrepreneurship.org, providing a place where anyone passionate about the medical industry can learn and contribute information about policy, peers, competitors and the issues changing healthcare entrepreneurship. It will include relevant medical news from MedCityNews.com, which covers innovation in key medical cities, as well as dedicated writers creating unique content that matters to healthcare entrepreneurs.

“We are excited to work with MedCity Media to provide professional journalistic coverage of entrepreneurial opportunities that are emerging from the ever-changing medical life sciences sectors,” said Thom Ruhe, director of entrepreneurship, the Kauffman Foundation. “From devices, drug discoveries, managed care, and related services, there are many opportunities for entrepreneurs to lead significant improvements in this vital sector of our economy.”

Entrepreneurship in healthcare continues to be an under-discussed topic, despite the importance and dramatic changes going on in healthcare in the United States. Healthcare spending makes up more than 17 percent of the nation’s gross domestic product. Meanwhile, research institutions are increasing their emphasis on transferring medical technologies off the bench and onto the bedside, while states have increased ways to privately fund medical startups. It can be a challenge for entrepreneurs to find the best path to success.

“This project allows us to give a broader voice to healthcare entrepreneurship in this country, while having the honor of working with the premier organization that supports entrepreneurship,” said Chris Seper, president and founder of MedCity Media.

“We also see this as a win of our disruptive approach to content. MedCity Media is perfectly positioned to help Kauffman, by delivering both unique content from our content services division, but also news on business and entrepreneurship in real time through our news service.”
