Every week, MedCity News highlights the best of its MedCitizens: syndication partners and MedCity News readers who discuss life science current events on MedCityNews.com.
Now here’s the best of what YOU had to say:
Lazar Greenfield in denial after Surgery News debacle. “He seems convinced that a small cadre of feminazis colluded to deny him his long overdue anointment as the chief representative of American surgeons. The email makes him look even more sexist than how he appeared after the original op-ed. Not a lick of contrition to be found.”
RFID tags at medical conferences attack doctors’ privacy. “Recently, a disturbing trend of monitoring physician quality and accountability has taken another ominous turn: tracking physician’s movements at scientific conferences (so called ‘tag and release’) using RFID tags imbedded in attendees name badges at national scientific sessions.” (Read the AMA response at the end of that story, and further rebuttal to the American College of Cardiology).
GPO Novation continues its Medtronic rebound phase, signs Biotronik. The Irving, Texas-based GPO said it signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with German cardiac rhythm device maker Biotronik, hard on the heels of inking another 30-month pact with St. Jude Medical (NYSE:STJ) (also for CRM products).
Promise of Synthetic Biology – A Double Edged Sword. “Synthetic biology combines science and engineering methodologies to create new biological systems and functions not found in the natural environment. The emerging trend of applying the principles of genetic engineering to modify existing life forms or generate new ones has fomented heated international debates. People on both sides of the issue make very strong arguments to support their positions.”
