The public health nonprofit Triangle Global Health Consortium has a new executive director.

Matt Epstein takes the helm of the organization, which works to direct North Carolina’s healthcare resources to improve global public health. The consortium is a partnership comprised of academic institutions, businesses and nonprofits. It was founded in 2009 by Duke University, Family Health International, IntraHealth International, the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, North Carolina State University, RTI International and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Since its founding, a number of corporations have also joined the consortium.

Trained as an attorney, Epstein’s 40-year career includes law, politics, public policy, consulting and teaching. He was most recently a principal consultant at Break Through Consulting and executive director of the American Judicature Society Institute of Forensic Science and Public Policy. Epstein has also served as executive director for the Center for Child and Family Health, a partnership between UNC, North Carolina Central University and Duke University that addresses issues related to childhood trauma.

Epstein served four years in the New Hampshire House of Representatives and operated his own law firm for 20 years. He has also taught at the UNC School of Medicine, Massachusetts School of Law, Franklin Pierce College and the University of New Hampshire.

Epstein received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Yale University, his law degree from the University of New Hampshire Law School and his master’s degree in law from Boston University Graduate School of Law.
