Mississippi is moving quickly to launch a health insurance exchange while at the same time fighting against the Affordable Care Act in court. A study from Center for Mississippi Health Policy shows that the number of uninsured people in the state would drop from 20% to 7% if an exchange is established. The state would also receive federal money to subsidize coverage for some people at lower income levels. The state has been debating an exchange for several years and a state law passed in 2009 allows it to customize the program for Mississippi.

Health and Human Services is holding a roundtable on Friday to discuss data security and privacy on mobile devices. The event run by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology will include three panels
featuring federal agency representatives, practicing providers, and representatives of research, provider and industry organizations.

A national group of non-profit academic medical centers has launched an online analytic tool to allow hospitals to crunch data about pharmacy costs. UHC  hopes that RxLINK will make it easier for members to access price benchmarking data and to discuss these costs with vendors.

BCC Research reports that the telemedicine market will grow from $8.1 billion in 2011 to $17.6 billion in 2016. The company’s new study shows that growth will be largest in the telehome segment.

The Food and Drug Administration has approved the first fizzy tablet to treat osteoporosis. Binosto from EffRx Phamraceuticals is meant to treat postmenopausal women and to increase bone mass in men. It will go on the market in Q3 of this year.
