If one steps out to conduct a survey on the problems that physicians face, finding one answer common amongst most of the physicians would not be difficult. Almost all of them would claim lack of efficient management of administrative and financial workflows to be an important concern. While there are various solutions to this problem, the availability of practice management software is surely the most cost effective as well as the most efficient solutions of all. However, the million dollar question would be what makes me quote the aforementioned statement?

It is not to say that physicians do not have other choices to optimize their non-clinical workflows, however, these alternatives could also turn to be more of a problem than a solution. Let’s assume that considering the busy schedule, a physician decides to hire a resource for maintaining administrative operations of his practice. Hiring this additional resource would not only mean spending dollars, as the resource would have to paid for his services but a good deal of valuable time as well which would be required to train the resource on the administrative aspects of the practice. At the end of the day, the conventional paper-based record filing would still not be abolished.

One of the biggest advantages of practice management software is that it automates the operations and records the information in a digital format that is easily accessible at any point in time. Physicians do not have to hire a dedicated resource for this purpose. In fact, practice management is so user-friendly that even a beginner could start using it in no time. No wonder, practice management is persistently gaining popularity amongst physicians.

How did it help? Well, not only the workflow is streamlined by merely making a few clicks, thanks to the point and click technology, but also the physician saved himself from accruing additional monetary as well as non-monetary costs.

While some people would claim that today physicians also have an option to outsource their practice management issues to a third party, they fail to realize that outsourcing does not seem to satisfy every aspect of the practice. As far as outsourcing medical billing is concerned, no doubt, it’s the most efficient alternative available to physicians. But outsourcing the administrative tasks would result in unnecessary delays, follow-ups, and of course, stress. Not only would physicians go through these problems, the added monetary cost in terms of fee that these outsourced companies would charge for their specialized services is also one of the concern, especially for the solo providers.

Being a part of the health IT industry, I believe that practice management software allows physicians to carry out all these business operations on their own, without having to compromise on their core responsibilities. Therefore, today, practice management seems to be the most reasonable solution available to physicians.
