A new ranking evaluating social media use by hospitals reflects a certain comfort level healthcare facilities have reached with social media channels. Indeed, they are beginning to expand beyond the confines of Facebook and YouTube to Google+ and Pinterest. The increased confidence is proportionate with the opportunity hospitals see to increase patient engagement, attract more patients and generate wider good feeling as a more accessible institution both through mobile devices and the social media preferences of their customer base.
Hospitals in the report by MHA Degree.org were ranked based on the number of “likes,” followers, views, as well as the pictures and pins posted on Flickr and Pinterest respectively.
Mayo Clinic had the most followers on Twitter, YouTube, Google+, Pinterest. Cleveland Clinic came out on top on Facebook and LinkedIn. Christiana Care Health System in Delaware racked up the most Flickr photo posts. It isn’t just hospitals that are increasing their risk tolerance for social medial. In a healthcare marketing survey published earlier this year, 31 percent of respondents representing biopharmaceutical, medical device and diagnostic companies said they had increased their social media budget allocation.
