Jon Stewart socked it to the media on Thursday’s The Daily Show. Many politicians and members of the media have touted his lampooning of the Obamacare rollout over the last week as a holy sign meaning the Affordable Care Act is doomed.
“Look making fun of something–that’s nothing new for us. So don’t act like us making jokes about a certain program or president is evidence that that politician or issue has reached some kind of tipping point for action. Although apparently that is exactly the case they are making.”
With the Rise of AI, What IP Disputes in Healthcare Are Likely to Emerge?
Munck Wilson Mandala Partner Greg Howison shared his perspective on some of the legal ramifications around AI, IP, connected devices and the data they generate, in response to emailed questions.
After a call for Kathleen Sebelius’ resignation used Stewart’s “turn against” the program as such evidence on Fox News, Stewart poses this question:
“If that causes things to end, why is the network you were on still on the air?”
He points out President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney both endured his “poking of fun” without Republican calls for resignation. “We did a running segment called ‘You Don’t Know Dick.’ Did he leave? No. What did it accomplish? Dick.”
As the website clip summary says, “Wit happens”–the media’s read too much into The Daily Show‘s sphere of influence.
Finally, Stewart enlists the vocal stylings of a gospel choir to underscore the fact “Most of the stuff we complain about never changes.” The bit is worth watching (video above), if only to hear some serious bass. And finally they sing, “Go f*** yourselves.”
