A health IT company focused on population health has added 1DocWay as a collaboration partner, according to a company statement. The partnership will enable WellTrackONE to make it easier its automated wellness survey of Medicare patients to make referrals to psychologists. The move follows a CMS proposal earlier this year that expanded telemedicine reimbursement to include annual wellness visits, psychoanalysis and psychotherapy.

Medicare reimburses primary care practices $180 in exchange for each annual wellness exam they conduct for Medicare patients. The automated platform WellTrackONE uses handles patient outreach, scheduling and evaluation from small primary care practices to large healthcare organizations. The analysis of questionnaires produces a list of recommended treatment options which could include a psychological assessment. That would trigger a response from 1DocWay to contact the patient to set up an assessment. WellTrackONE, founded by CEO Peter Bechtel, graduated from the Blueprint Health Accelerator last year.

In an interview in July, 1DocWay CEO Samir Malik said its service tends to be used to treat people with mood disorders and anxiety disorders, as well as people with substance abuse challenges. About 90 percent require some kind of medication. Its telepsychiatry service is currently available in eight states.

Although CMS has been gradually warming up to telemedicine as a care delivery option, it’s been criticized for moving too slowly, particularly when it comes to making telemedicine available to Medicare patients in urban areas.

Update: An earlier version of this story referred to 1DocWay as telepsychology. It refers to itself as a telepsychiatry business.
