PearlDiver Technologies and health insurance giant Humana Inc. have formed a strategic alliance as part of an attempt to make the healthcare research field faster and more affordable through sharing the Kentucky-based insurer’s reams of data.
Comprehensive Health Insights, Inc., the healthcare outcome research group of Humana, will work with PearlDiver to integrate its data into PearlDiver’s proprietary research database. The service will then provide a portal to PearlDiver’s longitudinal mining software, allowing for direct access to immediate research across private payer and Medicare populations, according to an announcement from Indiana-based PearlDriver.
The service will capitalize on Humana’s vast amount of medical data, including diagnoses, procedures, and pharmaceutical records combined with PearlDiver’s customizable research capabilities. All data shared with PearlDiver will be fully HIPAA-compliant, officials said.
The Funding Model for Cancer Innovation is Broken — We Can Fix It
Closing cancer health equity gaps require medical breakthroughs made possible by new funding approaches.
The hope is that organizations using the research can “leverage integrated claims and other public data in one central repository,” Steve Chick, market vice president of Humana, said in a statement. “This functionality provides the ability to answer real world research questions in real-time, and identify potential treatment patterns and other outcomes research that supports Humana’s vision on improving population health.”
In addition to private payer and Medicare populations, the collaboration will include total population research and customizable research on the patient continuum of care.
PearlDiver, founded in 2007, specializes in orthopedic research using large sets of data including both private payer and Medicare data. It will now expand its data base with the inclusion of Humana data.
