Dr. Monica Wehby lost her bid for U.S. Senate in Oregon against Sen. Jeff Merkley, and her behavior after the loss seems a little strange – strange enough to get some attention on Rachel Maddow’s segment “Debunktion Junction.”

Wehby’s entire campaign centered around the fact that she was against Obamacare. But now, she allegedly reached out to Democratic Gov. John Kitzhaber in hopes of filling the spot as director of the Oregon Health Authority (OHA), which would essentially be running Obamacare in Oregon. The shift in perspective is odd in general, but especially because it would mean a pay cut for Wehbly.

“In addition, the post isn’t seen as any type of springboard into political office. It also pays far less than what Wehby earns as a pediatric neurosurgeon for Legacy Health Systems — $861,479 in 2013. A previous longtime OHA director made $173,000 a year.”

Although many people can’t seem to wrap their mind around such a quick and drastic switch on her ACA stance, she is trying to keep things neutral.

“Honestly, I’m looking at all sorts of options. I want to stay involved,” she said last Friday. She pointed out that she just wants to help with healthcare reform and that this shouldn’t be a partisan issue.
