We all know that the sexual experience is different in some ways for men and women, for obvious reasons. Things like ability to orgasm and frequency aren’t the same for everybody, but what’s going on in the brain? Are we all more similar than we think?

Whether it be the release of dopamine – creating the feeling of pleasure – or oxytocin, which creates the feeling bonding and love, there are some similiaritites between all of us. But MRI and PET scans show some more distinct ways that the human body experiences sexual climax, including some areas of our brain that completely shut down. One major one, though, is the fact that our ability to reason, self-evaluate, and have self control just shuts off.
