Spotify and Withings team up to provide a better night’s sleep with new alarm clock

With the right lights and the right music, going to sleep and waking up could be a lot more pleasant – and better for your health.

It’s increasingly clear how important a good night sleep is for our health – not only how long we sleep, but the quality of sleep.

With that in mind, Withings, a company focused on increasing healthy lifestyles and well-being, has announced a global partnership with Spotify. Within that partnership, the companies have introduced the Aura Connected Alarm Clock. The E.T.-esque clock functions to either soothe someone to sleep or energize them to wake up with different colored lights and various sounds and songs.

Users can either choose their own soundtracks and settings (they’ll have access to Spotify’s 30 million songs), or recommendations based on a user’s taste are delivered directly through the Withings Health Mate app when they set an alarm or a sleep program.

The impact of music therapy is being put into practice more and more for a variety of conditions and healthcare purposes. Pandora’s chief musicologist has already jumped into the space by providing music designed specifically to help treat cancer patients.

It looks like Spotify might be getting on board as well by using its massive catalog and applications to contribute within the healthcare arena.

Beyond the partnership with Withings, Spotify will also now provide a new app feature designed for runners. The playlists adapt to a runner’s strides and pace. This could be a way to indicate improvement or how vigorous a workout is.

Withings currently provides a variety of modern products designed to improve wellness, like wearables, smart scales and a streamlined blood pressure monitor. Perhaps Spotify’s playlist (had to say it) of healthcare contributions will continue to gain momentum as well.
