Comics for medical education? Yes, please.
That’s the response physician assistant Jorge Muniz is hoping for “Medcomic,” his collection of drawings he has completed over the past 2 1/2 years. Muniz has taken to Kickstarter in an attempt to raise $15,000 to help him publish his art into volume one of a planned series of books.
“You’ll be able to vividly recall important information when you’re taking a test,” Muniz said in a video on his Kickstarter page. Muniz said he started drawing comics during clinical rotations while he was in PA school to help classmates study for exams. He then started posting comics online, and has heard from “university professors all over the world” who use the drawings in their classes.
The volume, to be called “Medcomic: The Most Entertaining Way to Study Medicine,” will contain all of his drawings since 2013, as well as some new comics, according to Muniz. He has secured more than $8,300 in pledges to date.
So far, there has been no word on whether the Association of American Medical Colleges or the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education approve. But “Medcomic” does seems to have the endorsement of Dr. Zubin Damanian, a.k.a., ZDoggMD.
