Jon Stewart’s successor on The Daily Show Trevor Noah moved from the United States in 2011 from South Africa. Luckily he hasn’t had to encounter the healthcare system much thus far, that is, until Wednesday morning when he had to get an emergency appendectomy.
He wasn’t very impressed with his care.
On Thursday he touched on the experience and frankly shared that he believes Americans aren’t in touch with reality when it comes to emergencies. “I don’t know if ’emergency room’ is the right term, because they make you wait,” Noah said, following the ordeal.
The Funding Model for Cancer Innovation is Broken — We Can Fix It
Closing cancer health equity gaps require medical breakthroughs made possible by new funding approaches.
Not only that, but while in excruciating pain, there didn’t seem to be much regard for the fact that filling out paper work was the last thing he could focus on. “The lady’s like, ‘Can you fill out the form?’ And I’m like, ‘Well, no, I’m dying.’ And she’s like, ‘Yeah, but I need you to fill out the form first,'” he said.
Noah also wasn’t entirely sure if he had insurance to cover the appendectomy, indicating how many people have emergencies and aren’t aware of the actually coverage they have in such a situation. Fortunately, he would be able to afford the bill regardless, but he still rested on the fact that his wife could take care of it.
