Healthcare policy will be in the spotlight at HLTH

Among the leaders addressing healthcare policy at HLTH on topics such as drug pricing, the role of government in healthcare, and regulation will be Seema Verma from CMS, Dr. Amy Abernathy at the FDA and presidential hopeful Michael Bennet.

At the second annual HLTH conference October 27-30 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, healthcare policy will take center stage in a series of conversations confronting fundamental challenges in healthcare. The talks will include the drug price debate, balancing regulatory needs for health technology and drug development with innovation.  and the proper role of government in healthcare.

On the morning of October 29, Dr. Amy Abernethy, FDA principal deputy commissioner, will share her perspective on technology, innovation, the medical ecosystem and how that fits into the FDA’s regulatory approach. Later that day, CEO of U.S. International Development Financial Corp. Adam Boehler teams up with the A Healthy Dose podcast from Stephen Kraus, a healthcare partner with Bessemer Venture Partners and Trevor Price, Founder and CEO of Oxeon Partners, to offer his insights on entrepreneurship, investment, government policy, Medicaid & Medicare and more.

On Wednesday, October 30, Health and Human Services Deputy Secretary Eric Hargan will discuss driving value-based care initiatives. Joe Grogan, director of the National Policy Council,  will provide a view inside the Trump Administration’s mission to give Americans more options and more control of their health. Senator Michael Bennet, a candidate for President will map out his plan for universal healthcare coverage.

Acting Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors Tomas Philipson and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Administrator Seema Verma will discuss the role of government in two different conversations on Sunday, October 28. Philipson will focus on prescription drug pricing and what role government policy plays in increasing patients’ access to drugs and lowering the cost of medical care. Verma will talk about what role the government can play in addressing dissatisfaction with the current healthcare system.
