Women’s health startup Tia strikes partnership with CommonSpirit

The two companies plan to open a clinic in Phoenix this fall, and additional locations over the next five years.  To start, Tia will offer virtual care services in Phoenix.

Tia, a concierge primary care startup for women, plans to open more clinics through a partnership with CommonSpirit Health. The two companies announced the joint venture on Thursday, starting with plans to offer virtual visits in Phoenix, and later open a clinic in the city this fall.

CommonSpirit, one of the largest nonprofit hospital systems, extends across 21 states. Tia CEO and Co-Founder Carolyn Witte said this made them an ideal partner to expand the startup’s care model across the U.S.

New York-based Tia started in 2017 as an app where users could track information about their period, birth control, and anxiety or other symptoms. Since then, the company has rolled out virtual care, and also opened an in-person clinic in New York City for primary care visits and annual gynecological exams. It also offers therapy, nutrition counseling and acupuncture.

Though Tia takes insurance, it charges a $150 annual membership fee for access to same-day appointments and a care coordinator — a similar model to other primary care startups like One Medical.

The startup raised a little over $24 million in funding last year, which it plans to use to open more in-person clinics, and expand its services into pregnancy care and obstetrics. Tia is also opening a clinic in Los Angeles this month, and plans to open one in San Francisco later this year.

Through its partnership with CommonSpirit, it will open a clinic in Phoenix this October. Tia will still staff the clinics, but the joint venture will give it an avenue to refer patients to CommonSpirit’s specialists and hospitals.

Over the next few years, Tia and CommonSpirit will add more locations. They did not disclose how many clinics they plan to open through the joint venture.
