Evernow, a telehealth company focused on perimenopause and menopause, has raised $28.5 million in a Series A funding round. NEA led the round with participation from 8VC, Refactor Capital, Coelius Capital, and other institutional investors as well as celebrity angel investors Gwyneth Paltrow, Carla Harris, Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, Othman Laraki, and others. The funding will be used for expanding the team, building its member community, and product development.

StationMD, a healthcare startup that uses telemedicine to deliver medical care to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including individuals with autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, and cerebral palsy, has received new funding from Martin Ventures, in association with Adam Boehler, former director of the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation. The goal is to keep high-risk/high-cost populations out of the emergency room and hospitals, while cutting costs and improving health outcomes.
“Last year, StationMD doctors performed nearly 25,000 virtual consultations and resolved patients’ medical concerns 93 percent of the time, averting the need to travel to the ER or urgent care,” said Dr. Maulik Trivedi, a co-founding doctor at StationMD. “We have consistently found that our specialized telemedicine service provides people with [intellectual and developmental disabilities] better care at a fraction of the cost of going to the ER.”

Nurse-1-1, which has developed a live nurse chat tool that can be embedded directly into other digital platforms, has raised a $2.3 million seed funding round led by Argon Ventures with participation from York IE and Hyperplane. The company uses a nationwide network of more than 2,000 nurses and a HIPAA-compliant customer service platform.

A new telehealth bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives would make it possible for employers to provide separate telehealth plans to employees, in the same way that they currently offer separate dental, vision, and medical coverage. Called the Telehealth Benefit Expansion for Workers Act bill, it would also modify HIPAA and the Affordable Care Act so that all employers could benefit.
U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-Indiana) led U.S. Reps. Suzan DelBene (D-Washington), Tim Walberg (R-Michigan), and Angie Craig (D-Minnesota) in introducing the bill.
