Heard at HLTH: Healthcare Execs Share Perspectives on AI, Virtual Health and Value-based Care

As part of the Heard at HLTH video series, MedCity News Editor in Chief Arundhati Parmar and Senior Reporter Katie Adams interviewed healthcare executives about innovations in health tech at HLTH 2023 in Las Vegas earlier this month.

At the HLTH 2023 event earlier this month, executives from some of the biggest names in health tech shared what they are doing to address some of the painpoints in healthcare with members of the MedCity News editorial team.

Dan Shur, chief product officer at Quantum Health, a healthcare navigation and coordination company, shared some of the findings from its inaugural survey of healthcare benefit consultants in a collaboration with MedCity News called The Index.

Jonathan Salon, MDLIVE President, shares its latest enhancement to the virtual primary care offerings: a health coaching program to support patients with chronic care conditions. Salon also explained how MDLIVE’s model of care differs from other existing health coaching programs.

Javier Rodriguez, DaVita CEO, talks about how the kidney care business approaches value-based care and health equity.

Mark Brosso is the Founder and CEO of PurpleLab. He estimates that the health tech data aggregator sees 75% of claims data in the U.S., no small feat considering how disparate and fragmented the healthcare data landscape can be. Brosso talks about why real-world data is crucial to the clinical side of life sciences. 

Cohere Health CEO Siva Namasivayam discusses prior authorization challenges and how AI, advanced analytics and automation could make prior authorization efficient.

Dr Lynne Nowak, chief data and analytics officer with Surescripts, highlights how the company is thinking about the role of care teams, including pharmacists, in addressing future primary care provider shortages. 

Chris Hogg, COO and co-founder of Marley Medical, explains the logic behind its structure as an in-network virtual primary care clinic aimed at people with chronic conditions. Although it works with insurers, the business markets directly to patients. 

Amy McDonough, managing director and general manager, Fitbit Health Solutions, talks about the wearable company’s journey to apply its consumer products to the healthcare ecosystem including health plans, governments, healthcare organizations, and commercial employers.
