Healthcare Moves: A Monthly Summary of Hires and Layoffs

Here is a selection of recent executive hires, promotions and layoffs occurring across the healthcare industry.

Hires

The American Medical Association welcomed a new president and named a new one for next year. This month, Dr. Bruce Scott — an ear, nose, and throat doctor from Kentucky — was sworn in as the AMA’s new president, and in June 2025, Dr. Bobby Mukkamala — an ear, nose, and throat doctor from Michigan — will take over the president role.

Knownwell announced its first round of C-suite hires since it was founded in 2022. The startup welcomed James Chaukos as chief operating officer and John Frager as chief growth officer.

Moximed appointed Christopher Gleason as its new CEO. Over his career, he’s held a variety of leadership and management roles at healthcare companies, including Intuitive Surgical and Johnson & Johnson.

Mount Sinai Health System named Vincent Tammaro as CFO. Tammaro will join the health system in October, coming from the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he currently serves as CFO. Before that, he was CFO at Yale New Haven Health System.

RhythmX AI welcomed Dr. Ed Glynn as chief clinical officer. He comes to the company from HCA Healthcare’s physician services branch, where he served as chief medical information officer.

Teladoc Health hired Chuck Divita as its new CEO. He comes to the company from Guidewell, where he spent more than 10 years, serving most recently as executive vice president of commercial markets.

UnityPoint Health appointed Dr. Gregory Johnson as its chief medical officer. He is joining the health system from Sound Physicians, where he spent 15 years, serving most recently as chief health equity and diversity officer and CEO of hospital medicine.

Promotions

Aetna promoted Erich Twachtman to vice president and head of commercial regions. He has been working at Aetna for more than 20 years, serving most recently as vice president of regional large segments.

Cigna promoted Jamie Kates to the role of chief accounting officer. She first joined Cigna in 2009. Kates’ most recent role at the company was vice president of accounting, in which she managed Evernorth‘s functions for accounting, compliance and consolidation.

Layoffs

Cigna laid off 261 employees in Arizona. These job cuts took place in the insurance company’s Evernorth Care Group, according to a state filing.

Dexcom is laying off 535 employees in California.

Novant Health is laying off 171 workers in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Oregon Health & Science University is laying off hundreds of workers. The organization — which is currently in the middle of a merger with Legacy Health — told staff that it was eliminating more than 500 roles.

Philips Respironics announced plans to eliminate 300 manufacturing jobs in Pennsylvania. The company is still reeling from what is now a three-year-old medical device recall which involved about five and a half million recalled CPAPs and other devices.

University Hospitals is eliminating about 300 positions. The health system is laying off C-suite executives and vice presidents as part of the job cuts, reducing its leadership structure by more than 10%.
