The American Hospital Association named Scott Gee as deputy national advisor for cybersecurity and risk. Most recently, Gee served as cyber incident response manager at Microsoft. Before that, he spent 22 years with the U.S. Secret Service.

Medically Home welcomed Graham Barnes as its new CEO. Before joining the hospital-at-home company, he had already served as the CEO of several healthcare companies, including HealthWyse and Concerro (acquired by API Healthcare in 2012, which was acquired by symplr in 2019).
Northern California-based health system NorthBay Health welcomed Larry Trilops as its new chief strategy officer. In the past, he spent about 10 years as an executive at Nevada-based Renown Health.

Quantum Health appointed Dr. Stanley Crittenden as its new chief medical officer. In the past, he’s held leadership roles at Humana, Anthem and Evergreen Nephrology.
Exits
CVS Health CEO Karen Lynch told investors during an earnings call this month that Brian Kane, former president of Aetna, is no longer with the company. She said CVS Health was disappointed by the current performance and outlook for its insurance segment, so it decided leadership changes were in order. Lynch and CVS Health CFO Tom Cowhey will take over leadership of Aetna until a new president is chosen.
The board of Ohio-based health system MetroHealth voted to terminate the contract of its CEO Airica Steed due to performance issues. Steed and her lawyers argue that she was unlawfully terminated while on an approved medical leave. This marks the second time in less than two years that MetroHealth’s board has fired its CEO. Christine Alexander-Rager, who has been with the health system for nearly 30 years, has taken over as acting CEO. MetroHealth has said that its search for a permanent CEO probably won’t start until 2025.
Promotions
Leslie Snavely has taken over as CEO of CHG Healthcare. Snavely, who has been with the company for nearly 14 years, has stepped into the role following the retirement of former CEO Scott Beck.
Layoffs
BioMarin Pharmaceutical is laying off about 225 employees. This follows the company’s recent decision to cut back on marketing of its gene therapy Roctavian and eliminate certain research programs.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan laid off 64 employees. The company attributed the job cuts to cost pressures, particularly from care utilization and drug claims.
Texas Children’s laid off about 1,000 people, which is around 5% of its workforce. The health system suffered an almost $200 million operating income loss during the first half of the current fiscal year.
Steward Health Care is laying off more than 1,200 workers as a result of the closures of two of its hospitals in Massachusetts.
