The Sunrise Group, a sleep company, has launched a women’s health program through its digital sleep clinic called Dreem Health, the company announced on Thursday.

Belgium-based Sunrise offers a small chin sensor that focuses on mandibular jaw movements for precise sleep analysis. The company acquired Dreem Health in 2024, which offers video consultations, diagnostics and personalized treatment solutions for sleep conditions, such as sleep apnea. Dreem Health is available in 35 states, though it is expected to expand nationally in the second half of 2025. It accepts insurance, including UnitedHealthcare, Aetna and Medicare.

With the women’s health program, the company can support women battling sleep issues due to conditions like pregnancy, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), perimenopause, menopause and premenstrual syndrome. Dreem Health’s providers will evaluate female members’ symptoms, diagnose their conditions with Sunrise’s at-home sleep device and create a tailored treatment plan.

Traditional sleep apnea treatments include CPAP therapy, oral appliances and positional therapy. However, conditions like PCOS and menopause can introduce additional challenges, such as weight gain or insomnia, so the company personalizes the treatment to address those needs as well, according to Dr. William Lu, Dreem Health’s medical director.

If needed, the company can also refer patients to other providers for additional care.

The company launched this women’s offering because sleep disorders disproportionately affect women. About one in five women in the U.S. battle diagnosed sleep apnea, though this underrepresents the issue considering 80% of women are undiagnosed.

“We also know that hormonal imbalances play a significant role in the development of sleep-disordered breathing,” said Laurent Martinot, founder and CEO of Sunrise, in an email. “Recognizing this disparity in care is why we created an end-to-end solution to close this gap in women’s health.”

In addition, 43% of Dreem Health’s patients are women, so creating an offering specifically for women allows these patients to receive tailored support, Martinot added.

To track the success of the women’s health program, the company will be following patient outcomes, adherence to treatment and improvements in sleep quality. Those who find relief from sleep disorders often report more daytime alertness, improved energy levels, better mood regulation and improved overall wellbeing, Martinot said.

In launching this program, Martinot stated that Sunrise hopes to bring “much needed attention to a women’s health journey which often does begin with sleep.”

Another company that offers virtual sleep support is Oura, which also offers tailored support for women, including period prediction, fertility prediction and pregnancy insights. Many other companies outside of the sleep area are also launching offerings tailored to women, including musculoskeletal company Sword Health for pelvic health.
