Women’s health company Tia Health announced a new partnership with mental health provider Talkspace on Tuesday, giving Tia members access to Talkspace’s virtual mental health services.
San Francisco-based Tia Health offers in-person and virtual support for women. Its services include gynecology, primary care and wellness support. It serves women in California, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Arizona. The company has traditionally provided its own mental health support, including mental health assessments and support groups, but partnering with New York City-based Talkspace allows the company to expand its services.
Through the partnership, Tia Health’s primary care providers can refer women in need of mental health support to Talkspace providers, who can offer therapy and psychiatric services. Tia Health’s providers can also collaborate with Talkspace’s providers on the patients’ care.
“This partnership establishes Talkspace as Tia Health’s primary therapy and psychiatric services partner, providing integrated mental health care that supports women across all stages of life,” said Katelyn Watson, chief marketing officer of Talkspace, in an email. “Talkspace will be working closely with Tia’s primary care providers to ensure seamless referrals and comprehensive care that addresses both physical and mental wellness.”
The partnership is mainly focused on increasing awareness of Talkspace’s services to Tia’s members, though a woman working with a Talkspace provider can also be referred to Tia if they’re in need of primary care or gynecologic services.
Tia Health launched this partnership because women’s mental health needs are “deeply intertwined” with physical health, but are often unaddressed, according to Felicity Yost, co-founder and CEO of Tia.
“From hormonal shifts to life-stage transitions like pregnancy, motherhood, and menopause, women experience unique mental health challenges that deserve integrated, not siloed, care,” she said in an email. “Talkspace is a mental health provider with a proven ability to deliver high-quality, accessible therapy services at scale, with the flexibility and clinical rigor our patients need, and wide insurance coverage that expands access to mental health care for Tia’s members.”
There’s a need for better mental health support for women. Yost cited a recent JAMA report that found that the mental health of mothers in the U.S. declined significantly from 2016 to 2023. In addition, evidence shows that menopause can increase the risk of depression and anxiety.
Yost added that ultimately, the goal of the partnership is to “deliver truly integrated, whole-person care by making high-quality mental health services more easily accessible to Tia patients.”
This isn’t the first women’s health partnership that Talkspace has launched. Last year, it announced a partnership with Ovia Health by Laborcorp to create the Women’s Health Coalition for Digital Solutions. It also teamed up with Evernow to provide mental health support to women in perimenopause and menopause.
