Hires
Drugmaker Amgen welcomed Shannon Turley as vice president of research and co-head of research biology. She comes to the company from Genentech, where she most recently served as head of immunology and regenerative medicine.
Gene therapy company enGene appointed Hussein Sweiti as its chief medical officer. He joins enGene from Astellas Pharma, where he served as head of commercial for gene therapies.
Healthcare operations tech company IKS Health hired Ajai Sehgal as its new chief AI officer. In the past, he served as the first-ever chief data and analytics officer at Mayo Clinic.
Craig Albanese left his role as CEO of Duke University Health System to become Kaiser Permanente’s president of integrated care and coverage. Before working at these institutions, he held leadership roles at NewYork-Presbyterian, Stanford Children’s Health and UCSF Health.
Medical device giant Medtronic named Adam Arthur as chief medical officer of its neurovascular business. He previously served as chair of neurosurgery at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
Penguin Ai, which sells tools to automate administrative tasks like prior authorization and medical coding, welcomed Mark Caron as its chief strategy officer. In the past, he has served in leadership positions at Capital BlueCross, Optum Health, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wisconsin, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and CHI Health.
Spring Fertility appointed Mike Michetti as CEO and Stacey Payne as chief people officer. Michetti has previously held leadership roles at Marathon Health, Highmark Health, Allegheny Health Network, Cleveland Clinic and Mercy. In the past, Payne has served in executive roles at companies including Sweetgreen, SoulCycle and Daily Harvest.
Promotions
Healthcare data intelligence platform Komodo Health appointed Miles Ennis as its new COO. He joined the company last year as its chief revenue officer.
Managed healthcare services company Magellan Health named Steven Pratt as its new chief medical officer. He joined the company in 2007 as a medical director for the Southern region.
Temple Health promoted Abhi Rastogi to the role of COO and John Ryan to the role of chief administrative officer. Rastogi has been working at the organization for more than two decades, serving most recently as CEO of Temple University Hospital. Ryan joined Temple in 2022 as chief human resources officer — before that, he served as general counsel at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Exits
Ochsner Health COO Mike Hulefeld will step down from his role at the end of this year. He has worked at the health system for 27 years, having joined as an administrative fellow. Timothy Riddell, who has also been at the health system for more than two decades, will take over Hulefeld’s role next year.
Providence Chief Transformation Officer Sara Vaezy is leaving the organization after spending nearly 10 years there. She joined in 2016 as a technical advisor for digital innovation.
Layoffs
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is seeking to eliminate less than 2% of its employee base. The health system had to conduct these layoffs due to cost pressures linked to drugs, labor and supplies, it said.
Novo Nordisk announced plans to reduce its workforce by 11%, which equates to about 9,000 employees. The move comes as competition heats up for its GLP-1 medications Ozempic and Wegovy.
Seattle Children’s is laying off 154 workers, citing federal and state funding cuts as the reason. Most of the affected employees work in administrative roles.
