Surescripts, a health intelligence network, unveiled a new product on Tuesday called Script Corner, which aims to improve price transparency for medications. The new product is in partnership with medication savings platform GoodRx, the companies announced on the second day of the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference in San Francisco.
Script Corner is available on a mobile phone and the web. When a prescriber at a participating health system sends an electronic prescription, the patient will receive a text message with a link where they can see prescription details. They’ll be able to see the cost of their prescription at their pharmacy, including their copay price, GoodRx discounted cash price and other savings programs. This will allow them to pick the most affordable option.
“We believe the future of healthcare is personalized, connected, and truly patient-driven. … Our new Script Corner product is a bold step toward that future, empowering patients with price transparency and giving them the freedom to select the pharmacy and savings options that work best for them, including discounted cash prices through our partnership with GoodRx,” said Frank Harvey, CEO of Surescripts, in a statement.
The Hidden Administrative Tasks Draining Small Practices
Small practices play a critical role in healthcare delivery, but they cannot continue to absorb ever-increasing administrative demands without consequences.
Pharmacies don’t need to sign up in order for their price to be included in Script Corner, as all pharmacies are automatically added, according to the announcement. And not only does the product give patients greater clarity into pricing, it helps health systems provide more choice to patients, pharmaceutical companies reach more patients through their affordability programs and pharmacies experience less “friction” at the counter, the announcement stated.
Script Corner will launch for patients in select health systems across Illinois and Texas in late January, with a broader rollout planned throughout 2026. Surescripts plans to add new capabilities in the future, such as medication management, enrollment in patient support programs and personalized adherence texts.
The launch of this new product comes as patients face a prescription affordability crisis. About one in five adults say they haven’t filled a prescription because of the cost, according to KFF. About one in seven adults say they have cut pills in half or skipped doses due to cost.
That’s what Surescripts and GoodRx aim to change with Script Corner.
“Working with Surescripts allows us to reach patients at a pivotal moment, right after a prescription is written, when they’re trying to understand what it will cost,” said Wendy Barnes, president and CEO of GoodRx, in a statement. “By eliminating cost surprises earlier than ever, we help more patients start and stay on therapy and ensure affordability programs reach the patients they’re intended to serve.”
