Medtronic (NYSE:MDT) announced Friday that it has launched a new spinal surgery product in Europe aimed at patients with poor bone quality such as those suffering from osteoporosis.
The maker of new innovative medical devices said that the CD Horizon Fenestrated Screw Spinal System is “intended to help provide immobilization and stabilization of spinal segments as an adjunct to fusion of the thoracic, lumbar and/or sacral spine.” The product is to be used along with Fenestrated Screw Cement.
It has a pedicle screw with additional holes on its tip to enable bone cement to be injected into a patient’s vertebra. The cement then cures and provides better fixation in the patient’s spine.
