Comcast (NASDAQ:CMCSA, CMCSK) and UnitedHealth Group (NYSE:UNH) are launching a video-on-demand show as part of a 12-month pilot program aimed at reducing the numbers of people at risk for developing type 2 diabetes.
Viewers for the video-on-demand program “Not Me” are being recruited in Philadelphia and Knoxville, Tennessee. The pilot will evaluate the effectiveness of using video on demand to get people to adopt a healthier lifestyle and reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
In each episode, a health and wellness coach will lead a class of six pre-diabetes participants striving to lose weight and lower their risk of diabetes following the Diabetes Prevention Program developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The prevention program focuses on changing lifestyle through weight loss promoted through healthy eating and physical activity, among other things.

Between each episode, study participants will practice at home the skills they learn from the program. If the program is successful it will be expanded to other markets through Comcast’s XFinity Wireless platform.
