Epic Systems founder and CEO Judith Faulkner has taken the Giving Pledge, promising to donate 99 percent of her vast wealth to address urgent social problems.
The Giving Pledge, founded in 2010 by Warren Buffett and Bill and Melinda Gates, is a commitment by the world’s billionaires to give away most of their money to charity or other philanthropic endeavors.
“Many years ago I asked my young children what two things they needed from their parents. They said ‘food and money.’ I told them ‘roots and wings.’ My goal in pledging 99% of my assets to philanthropy is to help others with roots—food, warmth, shelter, healthcare, education—so they too can have wings,” Faulkner wrote in her pledge letter.
