Pediatric device developer Lully , which has made preventing night terrors its focus, has added a 24 hour support service and other components in the latest version of the device.
Lully’s flagship device Sleep Guardian is shaped like a hockey puck that goes under the mattress and uses a vibration-based technology to help children stay in a “safe stage of sleep.” It vibrates for up to three minutes.
The new service lets parents and guardians call sleep experts for additional support.

The company has also added some analytics muscle to its upgraded companion app to help parents better visualize their children’s sleep. It lets parents track and rate the severity of a child’s night terrors over time and provides them a week to week view of progress for a child’s sleep habits. The upgraded app also allows parents to add other devices to it to aggregate data, a move that reflects a growing trend among companies with activity trackers aimed at adults.
Although Lully has carved a specific niche, several pediatrics startups have developed wearable monitors for infants and toddlers not only to track sleep but to get reading on temperature and vital signs such as Owlet and Sproutling. Sensible Baby uses a device that gets tucked into a pajama pocket or attached to clothing to track movement and the child’s position. Although it seems like most of these companies cater to the worried well, some see the data these devices gather as providing a resource to pediatric researchers.
