Sen. Chuck Grassley signaled growing skepticism about the likelihood of Democrat-led health care reform passing this year at a town hall meeting on Monday. Sen. John McCain said during a town hall meeting in Sun City, Ariz., on Tuesday that creation of a government-run health plan would threaten the quality of medical care and pit the needs of consumers and older Americans against national interests.

Senate negotiators close in on $1 trillion health care reform bill — MedCity Morning Read, June 26, 2009

Senate negotiators said Thursday they are close to finalizing a $1 trillion health-care reform bill that would be fully funded by tax increases, Medicare cuts and new penalties for employers that don't offer health benefits. The Senate committee will consider financing and policy issues over the Fourth of July recess with the goal of producing a 10-year bill that doesn't add to the national deficit shortly after Congress returns July 6.

Ohio hospitals provided $2.2 billion in community benefit in 2007; hospital association to testify about new fee

Ohio's 178 hospitals said they provided a record amount -- $2.2 billion -- in charity care and other uncompensated benefits to their local communities in 2007, according to the Ohio Hospital Association. The association is trying to use its preliminary survey results to get legislators to erase a new hospital fee from the state's two-year budget. Meanwhile, federal officials scrutinize the meaning and use of "community benefit" measures.
