Ohio State University Medical Center will next month open a 20-bed short-stay “clinical decision unit” alongside its emergency room, according to The Columbus Dispatch. It’s an attempt to better manage, from a financial standpoint, patients who come to the ER but may need longer term care – though not long enough that the they would stay overnight.
“Really, what it has done is help us aggressively identify early on what’s going on with them, and it keeps them out of the hospital,” OSU nurse manager Janet Susi told The Dispatch.
