Thirty-three small and rural hospitals in Ohio will receive grants of $21,000 apiece for improvement projects ranging from reducing medical errors to complying with federal patient information regulations.
The state and federal grant money totaling $693,000 will be administered by the Foundation for Healthy Communities of the Ohio Hospital Association, the association said in a release. The grant money comes from the Ohio Small Hospital Improvement Program and the Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility Program.
The hospitals plan to use the grant money to:
- Enhance productivity of patient registration staffs by using mobile computing devices
- Upgrade telemetry equipment to avoid potential interference when the nation’s television system goes all-digital
- Improve infection control techniques in surgery
- Buy computerized doctor order-entry systems
- Improve patient safety and security by buying closed-circuit cameras and equipment
