Small, rural hospitals in Ohio get $693,000 in grants to improve services

Thirty-three small and rural hospitals in Ohio will share $693,000 to do improvement projects ranging from reducing medical errors to complying wiht federal patient information regulations. Each hospital will get a grant of $21,000 to help with its projects, says the Ohio Hospital Association.

Thirty-three small and rural hospitals in Ohio will receive grants of $21,000 apiece for improvement projects ranging from reducing medical errors to complying with federal patient information regulations.

The state and federal grant money totaling $693,000 will be administered by the Foundation for Healthy Communities of the Ohio Hospital Association, the association said in a release. The grant money comes from the Ohio Small Hospital Improvement Program and the Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility Program.

The hospitals plan to use the grant money to:

  • Enhance productivity of patient registration staffs by using mobile computing devices
  • Upgrade telemetry equipment to avoid potential interference when the nation’s television system goes all-digital
  • Improve infection control techniques in surgery
  • Buy computerized doctor order-entry systems
  • Improve patient safety and security by buying closed-circuit cameras and equipment
