Touch Bionics, ADISCO and Aetna receive tax credits from Ohio

A health insurance company, prosthetics developer and a medical-device manufacturer received job-creation tax credits worth about $2.3 million. The companies promise to create 289 jobs.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A health insurance company, a bionic prosthetics developer and a medical-device manufacturer received job-creation tax credits worth about $2.3 million from the Ohio Department of Development, the state announced Thursday.

The bulk of that money went to Aetna, the Connecticut insurance company which gets the credit to expand in New Albany in Central Ohio, create 213 jobs and retain another 1,340 jobs. The tax credit will last for seven years, is worth more than $2 million and requires the company to stay at the location for 14 years.

In addition, ADISCO will get a six-year tax credit worth about $203,000 to expand in Kettering and remain there for 12 years. The Connecticut company is a plastics manufacturer that focuses in part on the medical device industry. It will create 56 jobs.

Also, the Scottish bionic and prosthetic device maker Touch Bionics received a six-year tax credit worth about $101,000 to move into Central Ohio for 12 years. It will create 20 jobs. Touch Bionics has sought to capitalize on its growth in the American market after acquiring in 2008 New York’s LIVINGSKIN, which gave it a physical presence in the United States.

The tax credits were among $6.2 million worth announced on Thursday.
