Boston Scientific Corp. (NYSE:BSX) collaborated with Philips Healthcare (NYSE:PHG) and Siemens Medical Solutions (NYSE:SI) to make its iLab ultrasound imaging system compatible with their X-ray devices.

The Natick, Mass.-based medical device maker successfully tested the integration of its intravascular ultrasound device with the Philips Allura Xper and the Siemens Axiom Artis and Artis zee interventional X-ray systems for cardiac catheterization laboratories or radiology suites.

Intravascular ultrasound is a catheter-based technology that uses reflected sound waves to create a cross-sectional image from inside the heart or a blood vessel. The image helps physicians select intra-vascular balloon and stent sizes and to view stent apposition and expansion after the device’s placement.

BSX said the integration will enable its intravascular ultrasound technology to work with the majority of interventional X-ray systems.
