Eagle Scout Mason Stoltz unveiled a new medical device at Children’s Hospital earlier this week: a music therapy cart. Working with the hospital and Twin Cities industrial design firm Worrell, Stoltz came up with the idea for the carts by watching his sister in the hospital.
“She was really sick and she didn’t really want to move that much, but then the music therapist came in with all these shakers and everything,” Stoltz said to the local CBS news. “Right away my sister just perked up and she started playing with them. She had a blast and it just helped to motivated her to kind of move more.”
Worrell’s Benjamin Van Sistine said Worrell donated all the design, engineering and shop time to make these carts a reality and materials were purchased through a grant from BestBuy.

Stoltz, a member of the hospital’s youth advisory council, also created toy carts to help kids getting MRIs cope with the test. Earlier this year, he wrote a great post on how to deal when your sibling is the patient for the hospital.
