White House Ebola czar Ron Klain spoke out on CBS’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday to inform the public that the CDC tech that was exposed to the virus when a sample was mistakenly sent to her part of the lab is doing well for now.

“Only one technician was exposed. So far she’s showing no signs of having the disease. She’s being monitored every day,” Klain said.
Klain acknowledged that the fact that Ebola materials were mishandled is “obviously unacceptable.” But he also made sure to point out that the CDC has been studying Ebola for 20 years and processed more than 10,000 Ebola samples in the recent outbreak, so in context, this mishap doesn’t accurately reflect the lab’s work.
“The CDC is a national treasure,” Klain said.
That’s great news about the technician, but Klain also made sure to emphasize the fact that the Ebola outbreak battle is still a global threat.
“This won’t be done until we get all the way to zero,” Klain said. “It’s like a forest fire. A few embers burning and the thing can re-ignite at any time.”
