Bruce Broussard Backs Interoperability (Sorta)
Here’s the takeaway from the Humana CEO keynote:
“Interoperability is a good place to start,” in terms of create a more efficient and cost-effective U.S. healthcare system. “I know it’s difficult,” he said. “It’s a tough transition. But when you look at the industries that have gone through the transition, those industries have ended up strengthened. And we’re going to have to change business models,” he said, citing Apple, the Charles Schwab company, and HBO, as examples of companies that have transformed how they do business through changing their business models over time.

Data Sharing: It’s About Money?
Experts at the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference here this week said the industry knows the problem isn’t a technological one; it’s about the money. By keeping their software proprietary and unable to exchange data, or by actively blocking the use of protocols that would otherwise allow it, vendors can corner their respective markets.
