PokitDok raises $34M to support business development, marketing of healthcare API platform

The funding will be used to nearly double PokitDok’s ranks from its current level of 40 to 70, particularly for business intelligence, technical and marketing support.

PokitDok has raised fresh capital in a Series B round led by Lemhi Ventures, a new investor based in Minnesota. The funding will be used to nearly double PokitDok’s ranks from its current level of 40 to 70, particularly for business intelligence, technical and marketing support, according to the company.

The staff are spread out between offices in Silicon Valley and in Charleston, South Carolina where its CTO is based.

Lemhi Ventures founder and managing partner Tony Miller will take a seat on PokitDok’s board with Lemhi’s managing director, Jodi Hubler.

Miller founded Definity Health, a company that focused on consumer-driven health benefit programs. He later sold Definity to UnitedHealth Group in 2004. In 2006, he started Carol Corp until OptumHealth acquired it.

Other companies that have invested in PokitDok include New Atlantic Ventures, Rogers Venture Partners and Subtraction Capital. Among its angel investors are Zac Zeitlin and Jonathan Sposato,

The fundraise is also intended to increase access to PokitDok’s API platform which includes tools to support insurers, providers and consumers with applications such as eligibility checks, referrals and claims submissions to making doctor’s appointments and referrals. Earlier this year it inked a collaboration deal with Evidation Health to use its API platform as part of its work to do clinical validation of mobile health tools for payers and health systems.

In a statement PokitDok CEO and co-founder Lisa Maki said:

“With this round of funding, we’re bringing the API economy to every healthcare organization and software developer who seeks to attract new consumers and provide the same level of performance and service they are accustomed to receiving in banking, travel or retail.”
