Divurgent and Sensato put together new medical device cybersecurity task force

The goal is to develop best practices for healthcare organizations and device manufacturers.

Sensato and consulting firm Divurgent have formed a new medical device cybersecurity task force. The goal is to develop best practices for healthcare organizations and device manufacturers.

Others joining this effort include Renovo Solutions and VMware, which operates AirWatch, plus medical device manufacturer Baxter. Fifteen health systems and hospitals have also signed on, including Beebe Healthcare, Children’s Hospital of Atlanta, Lehigh Valley Health Network and Utah’s Intermountain Healthcare.

There are three main goals for the cybersecurity task force, as Healthcare IT News reported:

The first is to create a set of best practices for healthcare provider organizations, the second is to create a set of best practices for medical device manufacturers, and the third is to develop an iPad and web app that will help healthcare organizations evaluate medical devices and at the same time feed a database that task force members can access to study the market.

One of the major issues the partners are trying to reconcile is getting providers and manufacturers on the same page, which is essential for security, the group said. An initiative like this is doing its part to bring all of those involved to find common ground, according to Healthcare IT News.
