A third site for a Cleveland medical mart?

Now, developer Scott Wolstein will in early February present his plan to developers to put the convention center and mart in the east bank of the Flats. “I’m not sure the back-ass of Tower City is the center of the urban core,” Wolstein told the paper.

A third site for a proposed medical mart and convention center in Cleveland will at least get a look from the company hoping to develop it, according to The Plain Dealer.

Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. is in town today to meet with county officials to outline its progress on a site analysis of whether Tower City or the current location of the Cleveland Convention Center would be the best choice for the building. Now, local developer Scott Wolstein will in early February present his plan to MMPI to put the convention center and mart in the east bank of the Flats, according to The Plain Dealer.

No word on whether this could delay the entire project.

Wolstein said that his site would cost a little less than $400 million – the amount of tax money expected to fund the project and significantly less than either of the two current options. He also disputes that the Tower City site would be the best location to revitalize Cleveland.

“I’m not sure the back-ass of Tower City is the center of the urban core,” Wolstein told the paper.

Some county officials didn’t seem that impressed with the idea. Commissioner Tim Hagan told The Plain Dealer that Wolstein is just trying to revive his stalled Flats project by attaching the medical mart and convention center.
