Cleveland’s Simbionix USA Corp., a leading developer of medical simulation systems, will for the first time offer a PROcedure Rehearsal Studio workshop at the International Course on Carotid Angioplasty and Other Cerebrovascular Interventions meetingin Frankfurt, Germany, on Dec. 4 and 5. Simbionix will offer the training in collaboration with GORE Medical Products of Flagstaff, Ariz.

Girindus AG, the provider of active ingredients for drugs and cosmetics in Bensberg, Germany, has appointed Marc Lemaître as CEO of Girindus America Inc., effective Dec. 1. Lemaître will lead Girindus’ U.S. operation, based in Cincinnati, and will have direct managerial responsibility for all business development, and research and development activities.

The Cleveland chapter of the American Institute of Architects has asked Cuyahoga County commissioners to reject the latest proposal for a downtown medical mart and convention center, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The architects oppose a 110-foot-tall, glass structure jutting from the edge of Mall C because they say the plan destroys the historic integrity of the park-like mall. They also object to developer MMPI’s decision to exclude Public Auditorium from the $425 million project.

According to a Newsweek article, the Cleveland Clinic could be the hospital that cures health care. In his efforts to improve the efficiency of medical care, Cleveland Clinic president and CEO Dr. Delos M. Cosgrove, a former cardiac surgeon, has enlisted every tool of modern management, obsessively tracking metrics of performance from blood-bank usage to market share, even redesigning hospital gowns in an initiative to “improve the patient experience.”

Ohio’s share of a global settlement with Aventis Pharmaceutical Inc. will be $5,019,441.83, according to Attorney General Richard Cordray. The settlement agreement resolves allegations that Aventis knowingly misreported drug prices for three nasal sprays so it could reduce its obligations under the Medicaid drug rebate statute.
