DAYTON, Ohio — Medical Mutual of Ohio and Premier Health Partners have reached a last-minute deal that will allow the health system to remain in the insurer’s network through June 2013.

The agreement means that people who hold insurance from Medical Mutual, the state’s largest insurer, will be able to continue obtaining services at Premier-owned health centers, the Dayton Daily News reported. Premier has 65 locations in the Dayton and Cincinnati areas, including four hospitals, according to its Web site.

In November, Medical Mutual said its agreement with Premier would be terminated on Jan. 1 due to a dispute over reimbursement rates. At the time, Medical Mutual said the rates Premier was demanding would have made Premier the highest-cost health system in the state for the insurer. The insurer said about 1,000 Medical Mutual members used services in the past year at Premier hospitals.

Had Medical Mutual dropped Premier, it would’ve marked the third time in five years that an insurer had terminated its relationship with the health system. Anthem dropped Premier in 2004, but the two reunited two years later. Last year, Humana dropped the health system, according to the Daily News.
