Two years after emerging as an independent with aspirations to become one of the nation’s top hospitals, Christ Hospital in Mount Auburn hopes to spend hundreds of millions of dollars in the next decade, recruit more than 200 doctors to Greater Cincinnati and build a network of about five ambulatory centers around the region, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Cleveland Clinic cardiologist Dr. Steven Nissen is once again positioned as a change-maker after revelations in a government report released this weekend renewed concerns that the diabetes drug Avandia causes heart attack, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported.

Business has been so good for the Cleveland Clinic’s West Palm Beach complex, the medical center plans an expansion, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Dr. Howie Werman usually spends his work day in board meetings and the well-equipped emergency department at Ohio State University Medical Center. But last week, he worked in a hot, cramped exam room in Haiti, treating the people of Fort Liberte and refugees from the country’s Jan. 12 earthquake, the Columbus Dispatch reported.

The Lake County Mayors and City Managers Association is endorsing the proposed $700 million bond issue on the May 5 ballot to extend Ohio’s Third Frontier program, according to the News-Herald.

Kent State University Professor Melissa Zullo, an assistant professor of epidemiology in Kent State’s new College of Public Health, has received the Beginning Investigator Award from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, according to a university release.
