Duluth nurses overwhelmingly approved a new three contract with St. Luke’s Hospital, the same day their counterparts at SDMC Health System reached a tentative deal.
About 96 percent of nurses voting Wednesday ratified the contract, according to the Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA), which includes a three percent raise over three years and a boost in health insurance subsidies. The contract also contains language designed to alleviate staffing shortages in hospital units.

The MNA represents approximately 450 nurses at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Earlier Wednesday, the MNA representing 1,000 nurses employed by SMDC Health System reached a tentative pact with the hospital group, which includes St. Mary’s Medical Center and Duluth Children’s Hospital.
The SMDC nurses will vote on their contact September 10.
