An emergency response training company owned by Cleveland private equity firm The Riverside Co. has purchased a developer of smartphone applications that feature emergency care instructions.
Oregon-based Health & Safety Institute (HSI) has added GoToAID of North Carolina for an undisclosed amount, according to a statement from Riverside. Riverside purchased HSI as a “platform company” in 2006 and has added to it a number of emergency education providers.
GoToAID offers a database of more than 400 topics covering first aid for both people and pets — from how to treat a snake bite to how to deliver a baby. The company says it develops content “that provides clear and simple step-by-step instructions on how to identify the problems and provide the necessary first aid in a medical emergency situation.”

GoToAID’s apps are available for the Android and iPhone operating systems, according to the statement.
The purchase is part of HSI’s strategy to expand its training content into the digital space.
“The offering adds value to HSI’s exceptional training offering, and provides the company with the strongest value proposition in the health and safety training industry,” said Loren Schlachet, a fund manager with Riverside.
