Medical cornhole gets angry (and a lot more fun)

The MedCityNews.com Medical Cornhole Tournament will be better than it’s ever been. We’re expecting a full field of 64 teams (only a handful of spots remain – so sign up now). The MedCityNews.com Medical Cornhole Tournament will be better than it’s ever been. We’re expecting a full field of 64 teams (only a handful of spots remain – so sign up now). We’ll also be honoring the best of Greater Cleveland’s medical industry with our Cities Awards. There will be more music. More prizes. And, now, more contests of skill.

The picture above is the creation of cornhole sponsor RGI: a cross between that runaway favorite Angry Birds and cornhole. Players and onlookers on Aug. 18 will have a chance to take three shots at a slingshot to see if they can put bird bags into the hole.

The best at this slingshot-style version of cornhole will get gift certificates from some of the best restaurants and retailers in the city.

Like MedCityNews.com, the event gets better with age.

Hospitals, venture funds, device companies, trade groups and many others have signed up to play. So what are you waiting for? Come to Cleveland’s Gateway Plaza between Progressive Field and Quicken Loans Arena on Thursday, Aug. 18 for the 2011 MedCityNews.com Medical Cornhole Tournament. The picnic begins at 4 p.m. and the games will start at 5 p.m. We’ll play rain or shine.

Anyone in the medical community is invited to participate. Registration is $25 for a team of two and includes a picnic buffet and T-shirts. You can register online now. But don’t worry if you haven’t yet mastered your bean-bag-tossing skills; we still invite you to come watch and cheer on your favorite team. For $15 onlookers get food and a T-shirt, too.

This event is sponsored by The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, Downtown Cleveland Alliance, STERIS, RGI, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Ohio State Medical Association, Perspectus Architecture, Benesch, The Krill Co. Inc. and Sequentia.
