The National Science Foundation Innovation Corps program, just announced yesterday, is a new public-private program aiming to take innovative healthcare ideas to market. Innovation Corps, or I-Corps, will offer $50,000 grants and put scientists through a curriculum on startups to help them turn their innovative healthcare ideas into healthcare business ventures. Stem cell court case. A federal judge has upheld taxpayer money being used for stem-cell research. Two scientists had brought a lawsuit on the topic after President Obama undid former President Bush’s restriction on funding for such studies in 2009.

Drugmakers defend experimental diabetes drug. Eli Lily, Amylin and Alkermes completed studies requested by the FDA and submitted an official response to the FDA regarding their experimental diabetes drug Bydureon. A spokesman says the study results address the issues raised by the FDA, and the companies hope to see Bydureon available to patients as soon as possible.
