Opportunities for healthcare entrepreneurs to gather together, swap shop talk, and — especially — talk to innovators in the field who have succeeded in building great startup businesses — are few and far between.

But on October 27, 2011, the National eHealth Innovation Series is going to get healthcare entrepreneurs together at an inaugural event — the New England Summit, near Boston.

The Summit will be held at the Conference Center at Waltham Woods, part of the state-of-the-art headquarters of the Massachusetts Medical Society.  In addition, event organizer ARRAHealth has announced that Health 2.0, a leader in health innovation conferences, media and technology, is joining the event as the lead co-sponsor.

The National eHealth Innovation Series/New England Summit is the first in a planned series of regional summits bringing together cutting-edge healthcare providers and payers with innovative early-stage healthcare information technology companies to showcase and accelerate eHealth innovation across the nation.

The New England Summit is also rolling out the eHealth Innovation Open, which seeks, through competition, to recognize outstanding new health information technology solutions, with “speed-dating” sessions matching top innovative healthcare and solution providers.

At the Summit, Health 2.0 will solicit applications from health IT entrepreneurs nationwide and, with the assistance of a world-class advisory board, match10 finalists with 10 regional providers and payers for a series of educational and match-making sessions with the end goal of launching a dozen new eHealth innovation pilots across New England.

It’s a great chance for healthcare startup owners to interact with, and learn from, some of the leading healthcare innovators in the U.S. Here is what some of those innovators have to say about the first-ever New England Summit.

  • “With a world class Advisory Board, venue and partners like Health 2.0, the New England Summit is poised for great success,” notes Mark Stevens, CEO of ARRAHealth.
  • “Health 2.0 is excited to participate in and support this first of its kind joint effort to accelerate eHealth innovation and adoption nationwide,” said Jean Luc Neptune, Senior Vice President of Health 2.0.
  • Scott Case, CEO of the Obama administration’s new StartUp America Partnership, notes that “driving American entrepreneurship is critical to creating jobs and sustaining our nation’s global leadership.”

The importance of bringing healthcare innovators together was a primary driver in the New England Summit. According to Wil Yu, Special Assistant for Innovation at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, “the ONC is directly supporting innovation in health IT to accelerate the nation’s progress toward a high-performing, adaptive healthcare system.”

A limited number of tickets will be made available to the public to participate in this historic event. Group organizers say that future regional summits may include:

Atlanta/Jan ’12; Las Vegas/Feb ’12; Chicago/May ’12; San Francisco/Sept ’12 and Washington, DC/Dec ’12.
