Medical cart and clinical workstation maker Rubbermaid Medical Solutions has named a new executive to help the company develop products for nurses.

Cheryl Parker joins the medical products unit of Newell Rubbermaid (NYSE:NWL) as chief nursing informatics officer. Will Horner, director of marketing for Rubbermaid Medical, said Parker will be a “nurse advocate” and offer insight about what nurses want and need to improve work flow.

Parker brings 30 years of experience to Rubbermaid Medical, including work on the clinical side as a nurse as well as positions in business and academia. Prior to joining Rubbermaid Medical, Parker worked for Texas mobile computing company Motion Computing, a maker of tablet hardware used in a number of industries including healthcare.

Besides her new role at Rubbermaid Medical, Parker is an adjunct faculty member at Walden University in the nursing informatics track. Her research focuses on technology’s impact on clinician work flow.

Rubbermaid Medical is the medical products division of Atlanta, Georgia-based Newell Rubbermaid. The unit was formed in 2003 as a business unit of Newell Rubbermaid. Rubbermaid Medical relocated its operations from Virginia to Huntersville, North Carolina in 2006. Rubbermaid Medical is part of Newell Rubbermaid’s Tools Hardware & Commercial Products division, which generated $1.6 billion in 2010 revenue.
