Cardiovascular medical devices clinical research organization genae has hired a new chief medical officer.
The CRO, which is based in Belgium and last year established a U.S. headquarters in Cleveland, has hired Dr. Catalina Trana for the role, according to a statement.

Trana’s responsibilities will include all clinical, safety and risk management related to genae’s research services. She is a cardiology specialist at a hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland.
“Growing business results in higher expectations,” said Dimitri Buytaert, president of genae Americas, when asked why the company had hired a CMO. “Dr. Trana brings a lot of medical and clinical expertise, which our customers will definitely benefit from.”
genae opened its Cleveland office last year at the Global Cardiovascular Innovation Center on Cleveland Clinic’s campus with the goal of expanding its U.S. customer base. Buytaert estimated at the time that about 70 percent of the company’s business in Europe was from U.S.-based companies conducting overseas clinical trials.
Clinical research organizations provide medical technology companies with outsourced clinical trial management services, such as site selection, data management, monitoring and regulatory compliance.
